Alpha Freezz Ice Cream Flavorings

LorAnn Oils doesn’t sell all of their flavors in the small 1.7 fl. oz. bottles. For example, their White Chocolate Macadamia, Flavor Fountain only comes in quart sizes. A quart is an awfully large size even for me, and I make ice cream almost every day. For the average person, that’s practically a lifetime supply. Another source of ice cream flavoring is from a company called Alpha Freezz. They repackage ice cream flavorings in 8 fl. oz. and 32 fl. oz. containers.

Alpha Freezz 32 fl. oz. and 8 fl. oz. containers.

I bought a bunch in the smaller 8 fl. oz. size and they are almost all identical to the ones LorAnn Oils sells. (I suspect the original source for both companies is National Flavors, but they only sell by the GALLON.)

The container has a convenient measuring system built-in. I use it instead of pouring into a tablespoon. The top hashmark for the 8 fl. oz. container is one tablespoon (½ fl. oz.) of liquid. If I need two tablespoons, it’s usually difficult to measure it a second time since the flavoring coats the plastic from the first squeeze. I usually put the blender’s container on my digital scale and weigh the first tablespoon, zero the scale, and then add the same amount by weight for the second tablespoon.

Conatiner directions.

I broke this review into three sections: flavors that are also available from LorAnn Oils in their small bottles, flavors available from LorAnn Oils only in their larger bottles or from other sources that I’ve featured before, and flavors that I made from non-ice cream flavorings.

1.7 fl. oz. Equivalents

Cake Batter — It’s the same as the sample of Yellow Cake Batter from National Flavors. It’s great! πŸ‘πŸ» The LorAnn Oils Birthday Cake (Yellow) is supposed to be the same as this, but it wasn’t as good when I tried it years ago.

Banana — Same as Banana Royale from LorAnn Oils. πŸ‘πŸ»

Gooey Caramel — Same as Caramel Delight from LorAnn Oils. πŸ‘πŸ»

Salted Caramel — Same as Salted Caramel from LorAnn Oils. πŸ‘πŸ»

Country Vanilla (French Vanilla) — Same as French Vanilla from LorAnn Oils. πŸ‘πŸ»

Peanut Butter — Same as Peanut Butter from LorAnn Oils. πŸ‘πŸ»

Pistachio — Same as Pistachio from LorAnn Oils. πŸ‘πŸ»

New York Cheesecake — Same as New York Cheesecake from LorAnn Oils. πŸ‘πŸ»

Birthday Cake — This is supposed to be like the Cake Batter (white cake) from LorAnn Oils, but it’s not the same. I didn’t care for this one. I discovered this particular flavor is twice as strong as the others. I needed to cut the amount used by half for it to taste right. I don’t know if this typical or if my batch happened to be this way. Anyway, it’s good! πŸ‘πŸ»

Familiar favorites

I’ve gotten samples in the past of these flavors from various sources. How do they stack up?

Butterscotch — Same as the Butterscotch sample I used in the past. πŸ‘πŸ»

Cookie Dough — Very similar to what National Flavors sent me. Needs the chocolate chip cookie dough mix-in. Not that good without. πŸ€”

German Chocolate Cake — Same as the sample I used in the past. πŸ‘πŸ»

White Chocolate Macadamia — Same as the sample I used in the past. πŸ‘πŸ»

New Ice Cream Flavors

Yes, I may have made these ice creams in the past, but not with ice cream flavoring. Are they as good, better or worse?

Toasted Coconut — Really good. Was it as good as toasting fresh coconut and steeping it in the mix to infuse the flavor? Well...it’s a hell of a lot easier. πŸ‘πŸ»

Cotton Candy — Just as good as adding the LorAnn Oils candy flavoring. Plus, no need to add food coloring. πŸ‘πŸ»

Dolce De Leche — Brand new flavor. Tastes great! πŸ‘πŸ»

Cookies & Cream OH MY GOD! This one is incredible! It’s great even without the Oreo cookies. Buy this! πŸ‘πŸ»

UPDATE 2012-06-02: I ordered more flavors from Alpha Freezz. It really takes a long time to get the order fulfilled, but it’s worth it

Black Walnut — It’s not a carbon copy of the LorAnn Oils candy flavoring. It has coloring and a unique taste. I will try this with adding black walnut pieces to the mix sometime in the future. πŸ‘πŸ»

Brownie Cake Batter — Nice! Add microwaved Brownie Batter G-Butter to the mix or real low carb brownies. πŸ‘πŸ»

Cinnamon Bun — Really good! Different than other cinnamon type flavors I tried previously. πŸ‘πŸ»

Cookie Butter — This is supposed to taste like Speculoos. It’s nicer than the Cookie Dough flavor I tried previously. I’d probably just buy this one and use it as a general purpose cookie flavor. πŸ‘πŸ»

Creme Brulee — Great flavor similar to the sample I tried many years ago. πŸ‘πŸ»

Devil’s Food Cake — This is a chocolate ice cream mix enhancer. I didn’t realize that when I first tried it out using a regular batch of sweet cream mix. I eventually added it to a batch of chocolate and it does change the overall flavor. I’m not suggesting that a blind taste test will cause you to spontaneously exclaim, “Oh wow! That tastes just like devil’s food cake!” but if you prime your brain with the expectation that it’s supposed to be devil’s food cake, it will kinda taste like it. πŸ‘πŸ»

Fluffernutter — Not very good. I don’t taste the marshmallow at all. Forgettable. πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

Graham Cracker — I’ve officially given up chasing this flavor. I haven’t found anything that reminds me of a graham cracker. πŸ€”

Hazelnut — Disappointing.  The Liquor Quik hazelnut flavor blows this away. πŸ‘ŽπŸ»

Peanut Butter & Jelly — I was pleasantly surprised by this. It does taste like a mix of the two flavors, but a little stronger on the jelly side. πŸ‘πŸ»

Rice Pudding — I thought this would be just like the Horchata flavor from LorAnn Oils, but it’s not. It’s different but very good! πŸ‘πŸ»

Spicy Apple Pie — Another pleasant surprise. Apple flavoring usually doesn’t work too well, but this one is nice. Use this with my “Low Carb Cinnamon Roll Ice Cream” recipe to make an apple cake ice cream. πŸ‘πŸ»
